Attending college away from home gives students and parents space to reflect on their relationships with each other. Now, being physically away at college, I’ve realized that our relationship was not broken but unhealthy. Being away from my parents allowed me to explore these fields free of judgement from our relationship hiccups. Financial issues, paperwork requirements, medication guidance and even “just-because” calls are all productive conversations that distill toxicity as much as possible.
