On Tuesday, September 23, members of East Suffolk Council's planning committee will discuss the application from Matthew Homes to reduce the number of affordable homes at a new development from 17 to three. The homes are part of a development of 50 new homes being built near Mill Farm, on Thomas Avenue in Trimley St Mary, which was granted planning permission in February 2023. Affordable homes in the UK typically refers to homes that are sold at 20% less than normal market value meant to encourage first time buyers and younger people getting onto the housing ladder. The move to reduce the number of affordable homes saw a written objection from the local parish council. A report to the committee says East Suffolk Council housing has made a revised offer to the developer to purchase six homes.
