Mallett, of Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, had denied attempting to murder Ms Farthing on December 7 and an offence of aggravated burglary. He said the photographs showed Mallett in disused buildings with birds which had had their wings removed before being set alight. During Mallett's trial, the court heard that Ms Farthing had been “absolutely terrified” during the attack and feared she was going to die. During the police investigation into the stabbing police found CCTV footage which showed Mallett dressed in dark clothing wearing a face covering shortly before the attack. Following his arrest, he denied he was the person who had attacked Ms Farthing or that he had anything from her house.
