Situated between Annick Water and the River Irvine, Dreghorn has been inhabited for at least 5500 years. Remains of a Neolithic village were discovered during the construction of new homes in 2003. "The site housed a farming community with around eight huts, and we have also found a giant fence that encircled the village. Highlighting the Neolithic settlement, the reviewer added: "It sits in the oldest continuously inhabited village in Britain".
