The call comes from independent opticians in the area, who are keen to promote good eye health during National Eye Health Week, which runs from September 22 to September 28. The awareness campaign highlights the importance of eye health and regular eye examinations. "As part of this year’s National Eye Health Week, we’re advocating a screen amnesty at 8.20pm – a perfect opportunity for parents to get their children to put their screens down and give their eyes a rest before bedtime." To help prevent strain, screen users are encouraged to follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. National Eye Health Week organisers have also advised maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding smoking, regular exercise, and eye examinations at least once every two years.
