Strickland Hardware Building, located at 204 S. Ashley St., was constructed in 1911 on the site of Ivy Ezzell Baker’s former home.
The wholesale business was opened in 1912 by several members of the Strickland family and H.Y.
Tillman and was a regional success, supplying materials to Savannah, Macon, and Montgomery.
In 1933, Roy Whitehead purchased the company, and in 1935, the business was renamed Whitehead Hardware.
