How the bridge from Grange Park to Nutgrove has changed
['Mike Critchley']
St Helens Star | News
Bill, a coal cutter at Lea Green Colliery, loved nothing more than drawing and sketching landscapes when he had the chance.
In fact when this image was shared on a local Facebook group recently, one Grange Park resident shared memories of Bill teaching her how to draw a horse in the 50s.
Residents of the Grange Park area will know the bridge - the centrepiece of this picture - as the one that runs off Scholes Lane and over the railway cutting, taking you down the old Asylum wall towards Nutgrove.
The bridge itself has changed a bit since the sketch - with a few add ons - as can be seen from this picture taken this week.
But my granddad Bill, who sadly died from emphysema in 1966 a few months before I was born aged 63, would have laughed at his old sketch getting an airing all these years later.
