"Every representation I saw in literature of young people who went through what I went through either focused on the perpetrator's experience or depicted only tragic outcomes for the victim/ survivor. I wanted to tell a different story, one where young people are empowered to share their experiences, even if they involve subject matter that is deemed by others as 'too adult'; a story where young people can see a future for themselves, even after traumatic events have impacted them."
