Bridport Museum lent Safeway a medieval carved stone overmantel, which was incorporated into an open-air feature near the shop's entrance. West Dorset District Council was going to monitor the situation and if need be replace the north-ern sign with one saying, "No access to Safeway". But Bridport Town Council objected, and the application was turned down by West Dorset planners in May. Recommended reading:The Safeway store underwent a renovation and expansion in 2004.
