In response to the World Council of Churches' request for special prayers for the regions, St Andrews Methodist Church, in Pump Street, hosted gatherings each day. Wednesday's prayers were conducted outdoors and included poems by Palestinians, a statement from a Jewish rabbi and a special prayer written for the week by the Archbishop of Jerusalem. Deacon Corinne Brown of St Andrews said: "We believe focused prayer for areas of conflict in the world is important. "We pray those in power will realise war solves nothing in the long term and that negotiating for a just peace is essential. He said: "Economic pressure is one of the few things that can persuade Israel to end its genocide in Gaza and its threats to annex the West Bank."
