Torrential rain has brought chaos to Ibiza, where streets have been submerged and the airport flooded after more than 180mm of rain fell in just twelve hours. Spain’s meteorological agency AEMET issued a red weather warning, its highest alert, cautioning of “extraordinary danger” and sudden rises in waterways. The red warning is in place until 4pm, while a yellow warning for thunderstorms remains until the evening. Major roads including the E10 and E20 have been closed, with firefighters rescuing people trapped in vehicles and homes. Flights to Ibiza have been diverted, although the airport remains operational.
