The men leading Queensland’s long-awaited inquiry into the troubled CFMEU and the wider construction industry have promised it will not become a union-bashing exercise. Stuart Wood, KC – a former Victorian Liberal Party member who donated $1500 to the LNP in 2023, and was hand-picked by the Crisafulli government to lead the inquiry – vowed he would shed light on misconduct “no matter who is responsible”. The inquiry was announced by the Crisafulli government days after a damning report by Geoffrey Watson, KC, found the union’s culture was rife with violence and intimidation. In his opening remarks during the first public hearing on Wednesday, Wood said the Queensland inquiry would rely on the Watson report.
