A sort of grey fog hangs over me these days. The grey fog is the part in a conversation where you will have run out of things to say to each other. I sense the grey fog almost as much as I used to get the shiver. But it is no better: effort in my experience has rarely been conducive to either the strange magical feeling or the warding off of grey fog. Of course, there are structural reasons for feeling like you’re stuck watching a play where all the actors are reading their lines with the feeling turned way down low.
