A report from the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) found that 38 per cent of vehicles checked in Haverfordwest had tyre tread below the legal limit of 1.6mm, nearly five times the UK national average. Ian Andrew, chief executive officer of the NTDA, said: "This report should serve as a wake-up call for motorists in Haverfordwest which is now a danger hot spot. "Too many drivers are putting off tyre replacement until the last possible moment – and the result is thousands of unsafe vehicles on local roads every day. "Legal doesn’t always mean safe and lives are being put at risk." The TyreCheck 2025 study also found that across the UK, almost 40 per cent of cars were considered unsafe, with eight per cent on illegal tyres and 32 per cent on "barely legal" tyres with dangerously reduced grip.
