Following the award, Beckett said he was overwhelmed. "I can't imagine a Yankee getting this award," Beckett said. "Bob Beckett is just a very unassuming, dedicated gentleman who is a tribute to Orangeburg," Gue said. Gue described Beckett as an “amazing gentleman.”"You see people who flout themselves but Bob Beckett does everything graciously," Gue said. Prior to joining the free clinic, Beckett was an accountant for U.S. Plywood until the company was purchased by Decolam Inc. in 1992.
