Addis Abeba – Two journalists from Sheger FM Radio, editor Tigist Zerihun and reporter Mintamr Tsegaw, have remained in Federal Police custody for 17 days despite a court order granting their release on bail, the station said. Despite this, the Federal Police appealed the High Court’s decision to the Federal Supreme Court, where a hearing is scheduled for 22 September 2025. Eshete Assefa, Head of News and Programs at Sheger FM 102, was detained alongside Mintamr on the same day but was released after giving a statement. On 5 September, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) called on Ethiopian authorities to “immediately and unconditionally” release Tigist and Mintamr after their court appearance was postponed. It must also unconditionally release journalists Tigist Zerihun and Mintamr Tsegaw and restore their report.” AS
