Federal agencies are investigating a Listeria infection outbreak linked to prepared pasta meals that reportedly sickened about 20 people and may have killed four. On September 25, the supplier of the pasta, FreshRealm, recalled some lots of pre-cooked pasta, including fettucine, linguine, and farfalle (bowtie), after a sample of fettucine tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The precooked pasta may be present in chicken fettucine alfredo and linguine with beef meatballs and marinara sauce meals sold at Trader Joe’s, Kroger, and Walmart. The pasta supplier is working with the FDA and its customers to determine if additional recalls are needed. As of September 25, a total of 20 people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria have been reported from 15 states.
