The Kalinago Council has announced a significant new collaboration with the Pawanka Fund, an Indigenous-led organization dedicated to providing grants that support and empower Indigenous communities worldwide.
Through this newly formed alliance, the Kalinago Council said it has secured an initial grant of US $30,000.
Utilizing these funds, the aim, according to the Council, is to bolster efforts to preserve and promote Kalinago traditional knowledge, with particular emphasis on expanding cassava cultivation and processing.
Furthermore, the Council reports that Pawanka Fund has pledged support for Chief Anette Sanford’s participation in the upcoming International Indigenous Women’s Summit, scheduled to take place in Belém, Brazil.
Chief Sanford expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its potential to strengthen the Kalinago people’s ties with Indigenous communities worldwide.
