KIM BURTON-SCHRAMLOCAL JOURNALISM INITIATIVE REPORTERInspector Marc Hemmerick with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) presented a report at a recent North Glengarry Township meeting, updating Council members on OPP priorities for Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG).
The recently announced $296,400 grant over two years from the Ontario government for the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP will help to extend the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) established in 2023 in SDG Counties.
At a local level, the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP work directly with the nurse that administers the MCRT program through the Cornwall Community Hospital.
Inspector Marc Hemmerick told the North Glengarry Township Council that the OPP has resources at hand, such as a plane or helicopter, for emergency responses within the Townships.
The SDG OPP detachment is committed to addressing public concerns, expanding their presence and helping residents feel safe within their communities.
