Russia wants the new 20-point Gaza peace plan developed by United States President Donald Trump to facilitate the creation of an independent Palestinian state. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled Russia’s consistent advocacy for an immediate ceasefire and an end to bloodshed in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he accepted the proposal on Monday during his meeting with President Trump at the White House. Zakharova said a successful and smooth implementation of the new plan should pave the way for the resumption of a constructive dialogue between the Israeli and Palestinian sides. On Monday, President Recep Erdogan declared his support for Trump’s initiative, assuring that Turkey would continue to contribute to the process to achieve “a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties.”
