A poll by the New York Times says that 65 percent of registered American voters believe that the Democrats should not shut down the government, even if their demands are not met.
The poll asked a total of 1,075 registered voters which statement “came closest” to their own opinion on the matter.
President Trump has vowed that if the government is forced to shut down, his administration will pursue a reduction in force of government employees.
Trump has said these layoffs will be permanent, in an attempt to force Senate Democrats to negotiate, which they have yet to do successfully.
