Helena canvasses results of City Council Place 5 runoff election Published 2:55 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2025Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...By DANIEL LOCKE | Staff WriterHELENA – The Helena City Council approved the results of the runoff election for Place 5 on the City Council during a special-called meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at noon at City Hall. According to Section 11-46-55 of the Code of Alabama, on the Tuesday after the election at noon, the municipal clerk must deliver the envelopes of election results to the governing body. The governing body then canvasses the returns and determines the number of votes received by each candidate. During the meeting on Sept. 30, with a quorum present, the Helena City Council approved a resolution to canvass the results of the Tuesday, Sept. 23 runoff election. The pair advanced to a runoff after being the two highest vote-getters during the race for Place 5 on the Helena City Council in the Helena Municipal Election on Aug. 26.
