Ryan Nelson in retirement Published 4:44 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2025After more than 20 years with the Troy Police Department, Sgt. Ryan Nelson retired on Sept. 30 and both the City of Troy and Troy Police Department honored him with a ceremony. “One of the great things about that is we got Ryan Nelson.”In 2004, Nelson joined the Troy Police Department as a patrol officer and attended the Montgomery Police Academy. “What a privilege and honor it’s been to work with you,” Troy Police Chief Danny Barron said to Nelson. He’s also someone you wanted if things were going south, you knew he would be there.”Nelson also completed the Glock Advanced Armorer’s Course, the AR15/M16 Armorer’s Course, Law Enforcement Shotgun Armorer’s Course and M4/AR308 Armorer’s Course.
