Zoe Goldstein/Vail DailyOn the last day of September, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution designating September as Service Dog Month in Eagle County. September is National Service Dog Month across the United States, honoring the work and impact of service dogs on people with disabilities. Canine Companions provides service dogs, facility dogs and therapy dogs, each trained to respond to specific commands to help the person they are working with, from opening doors to providing emotional support. Service dogs assist adults, children and veterans with disabilities, while facility dogs work alongside professionals in health care, criminal justice and educational settings. Canine Companions is accepting applications from those interested in raising and training puppies to become service, facility or therapy dogs.
