Though the supermarket has started donating its unsold stock to a national food donation program, the city's swans are not going without food. Marilyn McCarthy, project coordinator for The Swan Food Project, said: "Sainsbury's, who donated leftover bread for many years, is now giving their bread to a food bank. "The Swan Food Project continues to feed the swans with mixed corn every teatime - around 4pm, after cleaning the lower boathouse steps. "The public continues to support the swans with food they source themselves, or the handy bags of swan food we sell." "People can also help by taking the swans a carrier bag of fresh, unsprayed lawn mowings - the swans love them.
