Jim Naslund, longtime owner of Naslund Disposal Services, weighed in Monday on Nez Perce County’s plan to start direct-hauling to the Asotin County Regional Landfill. Naslund told the county commissioners he’s not necessarily opposed to the idea, but Nez Perce County needs to fill in some blanks before any changes are made. In Naslund’s opinion, the city of Lewiston and Nez Perce County should sit down and come to an agreement that works best for everyone on both sides of the Snake River. “I think someone put the cart before the horse.”The issue came to the forefront last week when Nez Perce County signaled a major shift in trash hauling for residents living in unincorporated areas of the county. Instead of using the city of Lewiston’s transfer station, county residents were instructed to take their trash to Asotin County.
