Growing up in a difficult household and facing physical disabilities, I often turned to violence as a young man to process frustration. They make it more likely someone will pick up a gun, believing violence is justified when it isn’t. It’s a warning for all of us: The consequences of violence are too heavy, too unpredictable, and often too permanent. Violence isn’t the way. No hot moment is worth haunted memories for a lifetime.
