Matthew Softley, 53, of Western Street, Old Town, has been charged with robbery and possession of a knife blade in a public place. He appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Friday, September 19 and did not indicate a plea for either charge. He reportedly threatened a Morrisons employee before stealing £350 of alcohol from the store. The offence of robbery is indictable only and the case has been committed to Swindon Crown Court. Softley has been remanded in custody and he is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, October 24.
