The 84-year-old and everyone else who has made that same decision have now been recognised with a new sculpture and plaque, which honours this selfless act and raises awareness of its life-changing impact at the start of Organ Donation Week. He added: “I am so thrilled to have been asked to sculpt this art piece for Great Western Hospital. Organ donation waiting lists are the longest they have ever been due to disruption during the pandemic causing a sharp fall in donor numbers which has not yet returned to its pre-Covid amount. “Today is the culmination of four years of work, it’s incredible, and it means so much to have the family here as well. “Having that conversation about organ donation is so hard for the families, so this sculpture will provide the impetus for people to discuss it with their loved ones earlier.
