The Ernest Cooper Macmillan Ride of Their Lives, a highlight of the annual Macmillan Charity Raceday, will return in June 2026, giving 12 members of the public the opportunity to race thoroughbreds down the Knavesmire in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. William Derby, chief executive at York Racecourse, said: "York Racecourse is incredibly proud of its long running partnership with Macmillan. Michael Stickland, director of corporate partnerships and philanthropy at Macmillan Cancer Support, praised the dedication of participants. "So, if you or someone you know has ever dreamt of competing at York Racecourse, now’s your chance." Funds raised from the event help support Macmillan’s services, including its website, support line, online community, and Macmillan centres across the UK, including the cancer centre in York.
