The 49-year-old suspect, who was driving a white Fiat 500, was arrested by officers and a police dog after the car’s tyres were deflated by a stinger device shortly after 12.55am on Tuesday (September 23).
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “At around 12.50am today, a man driving a white Fiat 500 at Gowthorpe, near Selby, raised suspicions of a patrolling traffic cop.
“The driver reacted to the presence of the police car, and a high-speed pursuit was soon underway with further police resources called in to support.
He was taken into custody and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Witnesses and those with information about the incident are asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
