According to NHS England, website visits for NHS advice on bites and stings soared this summer amid a summer wasp boom. The spike has put additional pressure on healthcare services in the region, where GP practices delivered more than 616,000 appointments in the same month. This marks a 3.9 per cent increase compared to July 2024. Pharmacy services also saw rising demand, including a 12.9 per cent increase in Pharmacy First consultations compared to June. As well as the rise in insect bites, there was also a 40 per cent increase in Pharmacy First consultations for uncomplicated urinary tract infections compared to the same month last year.
