In 2023, the sea was ‘let in’ to the island to create new saltmarsh, which is known for its ability to lock in carbon. "While the location of the work is currently landlocked, present rates of sea-level rise will see it transition to become saltmarsh habitat over the next one hundred years. This included people who visited Northey Island last summer, as part of a series of free art workshops. The artwork will be constructed off-site over the winter months, when Northey Island is closed to visitors to protect overwintering birds. The piece will be unveiled at a special celebration when the island reopens for its 2026 visitor season.
