South Western Railway has expanded the use of body-worn video cameras. (Image: South Western Railway)The worrying increase is consistent with similar rises in public services and industries such as the NHS and retail. Following a trial in 2021, SWR has rolled out body-worn video cameras for staff in customer-facing roles, such as train guards and gateline assistants. The campaign aims to prevent incidents by making potential perpetrators aware of the use of body-worn video cameras and the consequences of abuse. "The introduction of body-worn video cameras will help deter anyone thinking of abusing a colleague and help prosecute those who do."
