The Norway maple in Victoria Park, estimated to be around 140 years old, was felled in May due to a serious fungal infection. The infected tree has since been transformed into a hand-carved bench and table featuring wildlife designs, including foxes, badgers, bats, and owls. "The bench, created by specialist woodworker Graham Derham, is absolutely stunning and a fitting tribute for a beautiful tree. Located to the north of Victoria Park near Frome Park Bowling Club, the new bench forms part of a wider effort to fully repurpose the felled tree. A Norway maple sapling will be planted in Victoria Park this autumn in tribute to the original tree.
