Jittipat Poonkham​, ​ Associate Professor of International Relations at Thammasat University​, ​argues that "AUKUS, as well as the Australia-US alliance, seems to be an “unpinnable” alliance in the sense that it cannot be firmly pinned down in Thailand’s strategic mindset. The Thai government has not explicitly spoken for or against AUKUS. At first glance, Thailand appears to be neutral or hedging with all powers. I argue differently that for Thailand, AUKUS, as well as the Australia-US alliance, seem to be an “unpinnable” alliance in the sense that it cannot be firmly pinned down in Thailand’s strategic mindset.​.
