The eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, has released regulatory guidance for the big social media platform, setting out the steps they need to take to comply with the child social media ban. The guidance says in order to comply with the rules, platforms must detect and deactivate or remove existing underage accounts “with care and clear communication”. They must also then prevent re-registration or circumvention of the ban by underage users whose accounts have been deactivated or removed. The platforms should also not automatically transfer underage users to other services. “As we work towards implementing this world-first legislation, we remain deeply engaged with industry to ensure they have all of the information they need to comply,” Inman Grant said.
