Dozens of diagnostic centres have sprung up in different markets and neighbourhoods of Galachipa upazila in Patuakhali, many of them operating without approval or licence renewal for years. One such facility, Kajol Rekha Diagnostic Centre, is housed on the ground floor of a building in Closure Bazar of Char Biswas union, bordering Char Kajal. Similar unauthorised centres have been found in rural markets, including Family Care Diagnostic Centre in Kharijjama Bazar, Islamiya Diagnostic Centre at Bokulbariya crossroads, and Katakhali Diagnostic Centre in Ratanaditaltoli union. According to Galachipa upazila health department, 33 centres have so far been listed. Galachipa Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mejbah Uddin said every centre must renew their approval papers annually.
