On September 25, 2025, Protein Industries Canada unveiled five new projects designed to increase the use of Canadian-grown ingredients in food production. The initiatives, launched under the Strengthening the Canadian Supply Chain program, are aimed at enhancing food security, reducing reliance on imported ingredients, and expanding the availability of domestically produced food products. The projects span a variety of sectors within the Canadian agrifood industry, focusing on companies from Ontario and British Columbia. Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly spoke about the importance of securing Canada’s agrifood supply chain: “The resilience and success of our agrifood supply chain are vital to Canada’s economy. It’s an opportunity for Canada to come closer to seizing its $25 billion agrifood potential, strengthening our economy, creating new jobs and securing our domestic food supply chain.”
