Daniel Walter “Dan” Hancock passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 in Hillsborough N.C., following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 19, 1943 to Curtis Mullins Hancock and Annie Hicks Hancock in Carroll County and attended Hampden-Sydney College prior to serving as a medic in the U.S. Army.
Dan was a long-time resident of Mecklenburg County, serving as a community pharmacist at O’Briens (later People’s) Drugstore in Chase City and Montgomery Drug in South Hill.
He is survived by Dr. Jananne O’Connell (David Cooper) of Cary N.C., and Pete Hancock (Megan) as well as granddaughters Lila and Adeline of Nashville N.C., sisters Donna Lea Hancock of Emporia, Gayle Chapman of Gerrardstown, W.Va. and a host of nieces and nephews.
He will additionally be greatly missed by dear friend Gail Slininger and family of Bullock, N.C.Dan was pre-deceased by son Jonathan Daniel Hancock and former wife Patricia O’Connell Hancock.
