Debris burning will open across much of Central Oregon on Wednesday, Oct. 1 following a collective decision by the Central Oregon Fire Chiefs’ Association. The association, which brings together 12 local fire agencies across Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties, announced that conditions are safe enough to allow debris burning beginning Wednesday. Even with the regional opening, officials caution that each local fire protection agency has the discretion to restrict or allow burning on a daily basis. Residents are urged to check with their specific fire department each morning before lighting debris piles, especially if burning across multiple days. Permits may be required in some jurisdictions, and residents should review local regulations before burning.
