The Mitchell City Council, from the get-go of Monday night’s special meeting, had an unofficial arrangement to tear up Mayor Jordan Hanson’s subsidy application plan and go rogue. Hours have been spent working on the budget by Hanson and City Administrator Stephanie Ellwein. They told him to draw up a new application for subsidies since he’s in charge of the budget. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the evening came when Smith brought up his disdain for a portion of Hanson’s newly formed subsidy application. Too often it’s a clear divide with decisions, and anyone who has followed city government knows whose side is on whose.
