MITCHELL — During a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 22, the Mitchell City Council set aside $644,438 in subsidy funding for 11 non-profits in its proposed 2026 budget. Hanson asked if this would apply to new subsidy applicants, but Smith recommended that the city budget not include new subsidy applications. The CVB has received annual subsidies from the city’s entertainment tax fund while other non-profit organizations were allocated preliminary funding from the city’s general fund. MAHI’s application requested subsidy funding for acquiring in-fill lots, demolishing the deteriorating property and building less expensive single-family homes. DHDA regional development director David Lambert requested subsidy funding for the goal of prioritizing local community development corporations.
