Ulsan Port Sets New Standard with First Methanol Bunkering for Bulk CarriersAccording to Ulsan Port Authority (UPA), the port has marked a significant milestone by successfully executing Korea’s inaugural methanol bunkering operation for a dual-fuel bulk carrier on September 28, 2025. This latest achievement builds on Ulsan’s pioneering efforts in sustainable marine fuel supply, following its groundbreaking methanol bunkering demonstrations for container vessels conducted between 2023 and 2024. With this new development, Ulsan Port is expanding its capabilities from container ships to include bulk carriers. The green methanol used during this process was produced by OCI Global and supplied through ITOCHU Corporation via storage at OTK Terminal. This successful operation took place at the Southern Breakwater T/S Pier of Ulsan New Port, marking it as Korea’s first STS bunkering of green methanol specifically for dry bulk carriers.
