DAMASCUS,— Syria’s foreign minister and a senior Kurdish figure from the Kurdish-led autonomous administration in Rojava held a meeting in Damascus on Monday evening, officials from both sides told AFP. Government officials had announced they would not take part in the Paris discussions after Kurdish authorities hosted a gathering last week that included representatives of Syria’s Druze and Alawite communities. According to the Kurdish official, Monday’s talks reaffirmed the commitment to continue negotiations through intra-Syrian committees under international oversight. In late July, Syria, France, and the United States announced they would work toward holding talks in Paris “as soon as possible” to move forward on the March 10 deal. Abdi stated in a televised interview that the Paris meeting would focus on integrating his estimated 100,000 fighters into the defense ministry.
