KUWAIT CIT,— At least 63 people have been poisoned by methanol after consuming tainted alcohol in Kuwait over the past five days, the country’s Health Ministry said Wednesday.
Thirteen of the victims have died, while 21 others have been left blind or with severe vision loss.
The ministry announced on X, formerly Twitter, that all those affected were nationals from Asian countries.
Alcohol is banned in Kuwait under Islamic law, which prohibits its import, production, and sale.
Alcohol is not sold in duty-free shops, and customs authorities confiscate any brought in by travelers, including those transiting through Kuwait.
