SULAIMANI,— Security forces affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) detained Lahur Talabani, leader of the People’s Front (Baray Gal), along with his brothers Polad and Aso Sheikh Jangi after overnight clashes in Sulaimani, a security official said Friday. The official said the confrontation began after a court issued an arrest warrant for Talabani on Thursday. Polad Sheikh Jangi was injured during the clashes, the official added. Lahur Talabani, also known as Lahur Sheikh Jangi, was removed as co-chair of the PUK in 2021 by his cousins Bafel and Qubad Talabani. After his dismissal, Lahur Talabani formed the opposition party Baray Gal, which won two seats in last year’s Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections.
