QAMISHLO,- Kurdish authorities in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) on Sunday denounced plans to form a transitional parliament, calling the process undemocratic after officials delayed its implementation in Kurdish region. The new Syrian Islamist leadership dissolved parliament in December after the ouster of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad and adopted a temporary constitution for a five-year transition. Two-thirds of its members will be selected by local councils, while interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa will appoint the remainder. Critics have also faulted the interim constitution for granting broad authority to Sharaa and failing to include Syria’s ethnic and religious diversity. Those negotiations have stalled over disputes about power-sharing, as Kurds seek a decentralized system — a demand rejected by the central government.
