Canada previously announced its intention to back recognition of Palestinian statehood during the UN gathering, following similar declarations from France and the United Kingdom. “The federal government’s position is clear regarding recognition of a Palestinian state,” Merz told reporters. We do not believe the necessary conditions are in place.”Last month, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would recognize a Palestinian state at the UN session in September. “True to its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine,”Macron said.
