SULAIMANI,— Shaswar Abdulwahid, leader of the New Generation Movement, faces 79 formal complaints filed by a range of parties including landowners, political figures, government offices, and activists, Kurdish Channel8 TV reported.
Kurdawan Jamal, head of the New Generation parliamentary bloc, confirmed the court session marked Abdulwahid’s second appearance.
2 from former Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) candidates accusing Abdulwahid of vandalizing campaign materials and making verbal insults.
They cite Article 456 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which allows for imprisonment from three months up to five years.
Abdulwahid was arrested by Sulaimani police on August 12 after being sentenced in absentia to six months in prison.
